Chapter 7, Section 1
1. The development of a postindustrial economy has affected where and how people live in the United States. For example about 75 percent of people have service jobs like, government, education, health care, and banking. Silicon Valley in California is home to about 20 of the worlds largest high tech companies, this area has nice year-round weather and offers nearby housing.
2. The United States and Canada are interdependent because they depend on each other for goods. They also are involved in trading agreements that remove trade restrictions between them. These two countries are also interdependent with Mexico, they are linked using the NAFTA agreement.
Creative Writing:
The United States and Canada have a market economy, which allows people to own, operate, and earn profits from their own buisinesses. They have developed a postindustrial economy and place less emphasis on heavy industry and traditional manufacturing and put more emphasis on service and high-tech buisiness. Now that we have expanded trade all over the world we have formed a global economy. We all depend on each other for goods and services.
Chapter 7, Section 2
1. The United States and Canada could try to use less paper in order to not have to cut down so many trees and destroy wildlife. We also need to limit the amount of fish we catch per amount of time because we need to give them time to reproduce or they could die out. Also do the same with hunting other animals.
2. Pollution like acid rain is rain with high amounts of acidic material. It forms when cars, power plants, and factories release too much chemical emission like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, it corrodes stone and metal buildings, damages crops, and pollutes soil. The same chemicals are to blame for smog which make the air qualityy very poor and is dangerous for people to breathe and may cause respitory problems. Water pollution occurs when sewage and industrial wastes are dumped into oceans lakes and rivers, this is always bad because we use water for everything and it puts harmful chemicals into it.

In the next 25 years the melting of the great permafrost can be a big deal. These pipelines are refrigerated and it will be very hard to keep them cold once everything mealts. If they are not cold the oil wont travel smothly and can get trapped and backed up. They are going to have to think of new ways to transport the oil.

Chapter 6 Homework
Chapter 6, Section 1
1. Population patterns depend greatly on the region physical geography because people live in areas depending on the surrounding weather patterns, natural vegetaion, and resources. People also move to areas for industrial reasons if they need jobs or are looking for better or usually cheaper bennefits.
2.The four cultural elements influenced by immigrant roots are language and religion, Education and Healthcare, the Arts, and Family life.
Creative Writing:
An early settler would have had to work very hard to move and adapt to a new life in the united states. Assuming they did not come from an english speaking countrym they would have to try and learn the language as soon as possible or otherwise would be helpless amoug all the other different people. They would also have to find a job which was not always desireable in order to make money. The settler would probably get married and have childern as he began to get older. He would hopefully send his childern to school in order to get an education even thoght it probably was expensive for them. As his lifetime goes by he will slowly transfer his cultural beliefs and customs to his family and possibly to other people in the area causing cultural diffusion amoung the United States.
Chapter 6, Section 2
1. Physical advantages and canadas law system attraced many people to west canada. Its soil was very fetile near the prarie provences and canada did not punnish the united states criminals who had escaped.
2. Canada has 2 official languages, english and french. This reflects the history of power sturggles between Britan and French settlers and theyre decendents. Most of Canada follows Christianity which is the most praticed religion in the world.
Creative Writing:
If the British colonies did not seperate from Great Britan then Great Britan might not have granted full independence to Canada. If they did not pass the Constitution act then Canada might not be ruled by a Constitutional monarchy today.

Chapter 5 Homework
Chapter 5, Section 1
1. The waterways in North America play an important role in the regions development because they satisfy the the needs of cities and rural areas. They provide power for homes and industries and provide an easier way for us to transport resources across the United states. They also are very important because they form many of the borders for states in the US and divide it from Canada (Great Lakes) and Mexico(Rio Grande).
2. There are many natural resources found in the United States and Canada that play major roles in our regions development. For example, we have important energy resources like petroleum(Texas and Alaska), natural gases(Texas and Alberta, Canada), and coal(Appalachans, Wyoming, and British Columbia). We get most of our mineral resources, like gold silver, and copper, near the Rocky Mountains. Although, while getting these resources we can easily damage the enviornment, but now days we are much more cautious.
Creative Writing:
If I was flying in a plane from Norfolk, Virginia to Seattle, Washington you would see many landforms along the way. You may be able to see the Appalachian Mountains, the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountains, the Biterroo mtn. range, the columbia Plateau, and the Cascade Range.
Chapter 5, Section 2
1. The climate regions subtropical, tropical, desert, and Mediterranean are typically found in the United States and Canada. This large amout of land covers alot of area causing it to have many different climate ranges.
2. In the United States and Canada we usually have to watch our for fires near los Angeles and Oakland because the Santa Ana winds cause them to rapidly spread. Areas in the Great Plains exprerience supersells and tornadoes. We also have to worry about tsunamis. They usually happen near the costal regions when theyre are earthquakes far our in the ocean and cause gigantic waves.
Creative Writing:
Areas at the same latitude may not have the same climate ranges due to theyre area. Theyre climate not only depends on theyre latitude, but also what the area is like. For example, areas with mountains are usually have a cooler climate because of theyre higher altitude. And lower areas like the Grand Canyon are very hot because they recieve direct sunlight and hav a lower altitude, also they are located in the middle of land with not much water around to cool down the area.

Chapter 4 Homework
Chapter 4, Section 2
1. The different factors that define a culture are language, religion, daily life, history, art, government, and the economy.
2. Recently cultural diffusion has increased because of the information revolution. Now that more people use computers and electronics the worlds cultures are linked more closely than ever before. It is much easier for everyone to find information about whatever they want, especially other cultures.
Creative Writing:
If the information revolution had not occured my life would be extremely different. There would be no cell phones to talk to each other, no computers to find informaton, to emails to get out memos, or not even ways to video chat with friends or family around the world. It would be much more difficult to get messages to people rather than if you see them. We are so lucky and would probably freak out if we werent able to use the technology we have today. How would we keep in contact with each other? Let someone know that theyre soccer pratice was cancelled? Not having these resources would change our live dramaticly... we would also use up so much more paper and kill more trees because how else would we send letters or store information?
Chapter 2, Section 3
1. The differences in the three major types of government we use today are that in an autocracy only one person is authorized to rule and make decisions over a group of people. In an oligarchy there is a group of a few people who rule and in a democracy the area is ruled by many people.
2. There are three main types of economic systems in the world, a traditional economy, a market economy, and a command economy. A traditonal economy is when habit and custom determine rules for all economic activity like, in the Inuit society of northern Canada where the hunter would share the food from the hunt with other families in the villiage. A market economy is where individuals and private groups make decisions about what to produce. For example we use a market economy. There is also a command economy. This is where the government directs the means of production like in China
Creative Writing:
I believe I am very lucky to live under the democratic system because it takes all the peoples' opinions into accout and not just one or a couple people. It is much more fair to make decisons based on the majority of the areas opinion. Although it could be a disadvantage for those who do not agree, or are against the majority of the people. We also get to elect our major official(president) which will hopefully mean that they will make decisions that agree with what you believe. It could always go the other way around though, which would not be good.
Chapter 4, Section 4
1. A countries resources determines its economic development and trade. It depends on what natural resources a country has for it to sell and trade and earn money for and these are the things that regulate an economy.
2. Humans effect the enviornment in a huge way. Mostly because of pollution, which is the release of unclean or toxic elements into the air, water, or land. Humans pollute the Earth by buring and releasing unsafe fuels into the air and dumping wastes and other things into the ocean and other bodies of water.
Creative Writing:
I do not agree that only developed countries are polluting the Earth and need to change. Everyone is at fault and if one country changes it is not going to do anything unless others do too. Plus if other countries become developed in the future they will also need to change to renewable energy sources. They might as well just change now.
