Chapter 1 Homework

Chapter 1, Section 1

1. When choosing a map projection cartographers need to decide what the purpose of theyre map will be. Any two dementional map projection will be distorted in some way because the round shape of the earth is very difficult to project onto a flat surface. For this reason different maps are better in different circumstances depending on what the map will be used for. If they are making a map for travel and navigation it would need to be more accurate in size than one to show size.

2. Mountains and rivers(physical), boundaries and capitals(political), and roads and highways(human-made) can all be shown on an urban-area map.
