Chapter 14 Homework

Chapter 14, Section 1

1. The land area of Russia covers about 6.6 million square miles.

2. Some of Russia's main natural resources are fossil fuels like petroleum and coal reserves, they are also amoung the top 3 producers of aluminium, gemstones, and platinum group metals.

Creative Writing:
It is very important to preserve Russia's forests because about one-fifth of the forest lands are located in Russia. Without these forests we wouldnt have one-fifth of the oxgen that gets returned to the atmosphere from plants, which is vital to our lives. These forests also supply us with most of the world's timber, pine, fur, spruce, and cedar.


Chapter 14, Section 2

1. Russia's major climates consist of mainly a subarctic climate, along with dry steppe, humid continental, tundra, and highland climate.

2. Taigia, grasslands, decidious forests, sunflowers, sugar, beets, and wheat, are all kinds of natural vegetation found in Russias climate region.

Creative Writing:
Trying to march through russia during its cold winter was one of the worst experiences of my life. We traveled for hundreds of miles through freezing snow, lacking food and supplies. More and more soilders had begun to die and there was nothing anyone could do about it. In our attempt to return home, less then one-fourth of the original soilders had survived.
