Chapter 15 Homework

Chapter 15, Section 1

1. In post-Soviet Russia the role of religion has changed becase after the fall of the Soviet Union, Russians are able to rediscover their faiths and traditions by expressing themselves creativly. For example after this fall, the area of Russia was largely influenced by many foreign missionaries from Western Christian denominations.

2. Russia is home to one of the widest varities of ethnic groups in the world. Russia's main ethnic groups are The Slavs, the Caucasian Peoples, and the Turkic Peoples.

Creative Writing:

During the Soviet era many people attended school, it was free and mandatory. Although, the education was limited to math science and engineering which was the reason for the intellictual elite. Today the curriculum is much different and includes all subjects. This is much better becasue now these people can become successful at whatever subject suits them and there are more options for their future.


Chapter 15, Section 2

1. The ancestors of the ehtnic Russians were the Varangians(Scandinavian warriors) and the Slav people.

2. The Soviet Union collapsed due to the weakening economy, and the great discrepancies between workers wages and the privlages their leaders enjoyed.

Creative Writing:

The United States began fighting against the Soviet Union in the Cold War which was the struggle between competing systems of comunism or capitalism. Later the weakening ecomomy and discrepencies with workers wages and power began to pull apart the Soviet Union. All of the surronding satallite countries overthrew their communist leaders and therefore the Soviet Union collapsed.
